Glorious Goodwood 2015: The Oliver Brown Style Guide
27 Jul 2015
Ah, Glorious Goodwood. It’s a highlight for many in the summer social calendar – and rightly so, with 11,000 acres of rolling South Downs countryside, Goodwood provides one of the most picturesque settings for a quintessentially English day out. But what to wear? The event is an utter joy for people-watching, so we recommend donning your most stylish smart-casual threads - and praying for glorious weather. Let us guide you through our tips for dressing for the Richmond Enclosure and beyond. Firstly, as race meets go, Goodwood’s dress code is slightly more informal. However, that poses a problem for many. How do you strike the smart-casual balance while still making a sartorial statement? We wholeheartedly recommend our linen suit jackets and matching linen trousers. It’s high summer, so don’t be scared of a splash of colour. Powder blue and pale pink are an excellent choice for suits, or for traditionalists, try navy or cream. Alternatively, our lightweight city suits in classic navy are ideal if you prefer a more formal look - and they're endlessly versatile. If you’re entering the Richmond Enclosure, be sure to keep your jacket on and team your suit and shirt with a tie or cravat (according the official Goodwood dress code!) Again, why not try a splash of colour? Try our spotted twill silk tie and a spotted silk handkerchief worn as a pocket square. Read our previous blog post for tips on achieving the perfect artfully arranged pocket square. Polo-neck sweaters are also permitted, should you wish to try a slightly alternative look (or the weather requires it!) And finally, not forgetting the ultimate Goodwood accessory and the ideal finishing touch - the classic Panama stetson hat. Good luck to all those attending this year's meet! We'll see you there.
