[caption id="attachment_1207" align="alignnone" width="625"] Miltons, Devon: Pheasant, partridge and 5,000 acres of England’s finest countryside[/caption] Almost month into the pheasant season, it’s time (if you haven’t already) to extinguish the proverbial pipe, stop dreaming, and plan your campaign in earnest. By way of inspiration, here are 6 of our favorite shoots from across the UK. Miltons, Devon A leading light among the original Great Shoots of Exmoor, Miltons is home to some of the country’s most famous drives. Names like Tom’s Hedges, Rookery and Dark Corner conjure happy memories and eager anticipation among regular visitors. Hurdcott Estate, Wiltshire A relaxed atmosphere, convivial hosts and excellent birds mean this friendly, family-run shoot in the rolling Wiltshire countryside has relatively few days to let. Bearing in mind a loyal following returning year after year, we’d waste no time in booking. Euston Hall, Suffolk Strong, high-flying birds and plenty of them thanks to the eponymous Euston System, Euston offer 5 or 6 drives a day for up to 9 guns. This one is up at there at the very top of our list. Castle Hill, Devon Competition is stiff down on Exmoor, but few shoots are held in higher regard that Castle Hill. With the aforementioned Miltons not a million miles away, these two would make for a satisfying right-and-left over a winter weekend for fans of high birds. Urrard, Perthshire With partridge and pheasant somewhere between the altitudes of ‘sporting’ and ‘stratospheric’, there’s a comparably high standard of hospitality available at Urrard House for those looking to make the journey and stay overnight.
