Wedding season is well and truly upon us and it seems we're dusting off our suits in preparation almost weekly. With weddings in the country, the city and abroad to prepare for, it's not just the logistics of booking hotels and ordering gifts that can be tricky - it's also a potential sartorial minefield. Read on for the Oliver Brown wedding style guide, with tips for dressing for getting it right, whatever the location.
If you're the groom
Morning suits are traditionally worn by the groom and groomsmen on the big day itself. We recommend a morning coat in grey or black, or with a subtle herringbone weave as shown above. Ensure to team your coat with a
waistcoat and
silk tie - and of course, a floral button hole which complements your waistcoat and the bride's bouquet.
If it's a city wedding
Unless it's a very formal affair, a slick day suit such as our
single-breasted navy herringbone suit is perfect for contemporary city weddings. Pay attention to the details to ensure the look is differentiated from your everyday attire; accessorise with
timeless cufflinks, silk ties and
pocket squares, and ensure your shoes are perfectly polished.
If it's a country wedding
If the wedding is particularly formal, you may wish to stick to traditional morningwear. However, if day suits are on the dress code, an outdoor country wedding is the perfect opportunity to wear one of our lightweight Loro Piana suits - especially if it's a warm summer's day. They're made from exceptionally high quality Italian summer-weight cloth for an enduring look and feel.
If it's abroad
A mid-summer wedding calls for lightweight cotton or
linen suits. Our high quality linen tailoring lends an air of relaxed elegance that's perfectly suited to continental nuptials. Be sure to pair your linen suit with a crisp white shirt and tie to ensure you look the part.
